Take Me Away!

For the convenience of my customers
Please print out the following pdf
PRINTABLE: RW332_1

I know I called this card "Take me Away!"....But when I think about it ...it's only the romance of the idea of   Sailing Away!  Being on a little Sailboat with the land in the far distance cannot be that relaxing!  Pay for the Boat, move the boat, fix the boat, clean the boat, learn how to pilot the boat, fight over who gets to steer, pee in the little potty, make the same meals you make at home except while it's rocking and everyone else is upstairs enjoying themselves, get lost in on the lake....but I digress!

My hubby Gerald and I were out and about in the snow checking out the sweetest Stamp Store you would ever want to shop in!  We love checking out Stamp Stores!  This store was extremely well managed and beautifully laid out!  No small feat in this economy.  I wish I knew the name of the owner I was talking to...it was either Kim or Kelly...darn.  They are very niche, specializing in a small branch of stamping in particular and doing it extremely well.  I could talk about it at length - but not everyone is totally fascinated by the running of Stamp stores like me!  I sure admire this one!  Check it out!  It's called the "Paper Pickle Co."!!!
And yes!  It looks exactly like the beautiful pictures inside!

This class will be at "Remember When Scrapbooking" on

Stampscapes Getaway Card 3

For the convenience of those attending my class, and those wanting to save project ideas...please print out the following pdf. PRINTABLE:DM325Card3

Ahhh...if only I could crawl over to my favorite chair and watch a "Bones' episode while drinking a glass of wine and waiting for one of my sons to make dinner!  I don't care what kind of dinner....mac and cheese...hotdogs....I'd even eat ramen noodles!   As long as I didn't have to make it myself!  Then I would "accidently" fall asleep...snoring gently....alas...

So today...I was at "Remember When Scrapbooking" MI teaching a class and having a great time.  I was talking to Fran who Facebooks and had recently set up Shannon (the owner) with a Fan page.  Now like a good little girl, I had signed up with facebook during a CHA seminar to better advertise ourselves...but just couldn't take that last step into Facebook Neverland thinking that all that facebooking would chew up what little leisure time I had left and make me crazy because I wouldn't have anyone hit the "like" button anyway!
But I would be able to take pictures like this one  at "Remember When" and shoot it from my phone to facebook right away.  Cool but sounds like work!

Great Ladies at this store!  Fun to work and play with!

I got a thing for this Stampscapes tent!  Forever ago when we used to live in Alaska and had a store there, we would sell Stampscape Stamps hand over fist because everywhere you looked was a Stampscapes image in real life.  Tents up the side of a mountain, tents under a tree, tents beside Million dollar RVs in a Campsite.  The great thing about Alaskans is they're not stuck up.  In the lower 48 they separate the different style of campers into different parts of the Campsite...probably because of the all the hook-ups.  Not in Alaska.  The Million dollar Rv'r and the tenter would have shared a beer that night and told tall tales about the fish that got away!  Cool People!!

Stick a moose beside any of your Stampscape creations and you've got the "Land under the Midnight Sun"!

Hallelujah...it's another snow-day!  I always get an extra 2 hours out of my day when there are no lunches and no driving to be done to and fro from school!  Off I went to Meijer to get a jump on my grocery shoppin!  Now the pot roast is in the slow cooker, there's a coffee in my hand (and a banana...blech!) and now I can work uninterrupted....mostly!

I think this card is my favorite of the three that will be in the Simple Stampscapes class at Shannon's.  It looks a little Scottish somehow!  Very manly!  Reminds me of the Irish Soap Commercials (do you remember those?)  This is my Irish Soap Manly Man Card!

I was very fortunate to teach my "Momento" Tim Holtz at Cambridge book in Romeo on Saturday.  I've got a great picture of Pam Planitz who is the owner of the "Artful Scrapbooker".  She has a very cool store specializing in Vintage products and classes.  Click HERE to go to her website...which will immediately show you her very neat taste in the Victorian!  14 lovely and very well versed ladies attended the class.  They already knew everything you would need to know to create a book....so I mostly just breathed down everybody's neck and admired what they were doing!  I had a great time!  Here are a few pictures!

This is Pam Planitz of the Artful Scrapbooker.  Look at the fabulous wall!

Look at the back wall ... it is full of hand made books, treasure and cards!  A feast for the eyes!
Just when I thought there was no new way to make the inside of the page....this lady creates an intriguing and fascinating piece of art.  Everyone who attended the class was very gifted.

Distressing Stampscapes!

For the convenience of those attending my class, please print out the following pdf.
PRINTABLE:DM325

I came across some great distressing stamps from Hero Arts and Unity Stamp Co. and since I had a Stampscapes Getaway coming up at Destination Marysville...I wondered if were possible to distress Stampscapes in an attractive way.  I really got into this and am hoping to continue along this vein with some more "distress" techniques.  Once I got the first one done...I couldn't wait to see what else I could get into the smaller space.  This is perfect for a "getaway" as I am sure that the ladies who come will see a whole lot of possibilities to embrace in the afternoon portion of our time together!

This next picture was taken from the side to show the layers and foam mounting.  Not a very good picture I know!  But I'm afraid it's at the store now and I can take another picture at the moment!  I hope you get the idea though.  I've been enjoying all the layering lately too!  I still haven't sewn on a Stampscapes...that's next!

My eyes are bleeding!!  that's not really true!  It's just an expression that means I'd rather be in bed and need to close my sore eyes! I've been making a zillion cards (not really true either!) and I can't believe I haven't blogged any of them! silly!  I guess I thought everyone would catch my vibe somehow and know that yes...the cards are done for class!  I guess you didn't catch the vibe huh?!....me neither!

The hardest thing in the world is making a simple card that still has visual impact!  I know you know what I mean!  You'd think they would be easy...nuh uh!  I worked harder on these "Simple" cards than I did for an upcoming "Sweaty Stampscapes" class (meaning...they take much effort and have more techniques involved!) :)

I realized that I had been stamping Stampscapes exclusively in black lately and decided...no!  I'm going to do it in brown!  (go figure!) and almost regreted it when I was stilll stamping three days later!  Can you tell I've had a glass of wine?  Perhaps I should stop talking!!!  I bet your eyes are glazing over!

By the way....My favoritest tool these days is the Tim Holtz Alchohol Ink Applicator.  I've used it so much lately that I had to disinfect it with windex.  It got a little moldy!  Okay, okay...I'm going to bed!

Hangin' Out

Outside the snow is falling very gently and not really sticking around.  My Dad's truck is out their with a ticket on it because it wouldn't start last night after the football game...and the police never miss giving us a ticket for having a vehicle on the road at night! (during the winter nights there is a snow removal by-law). Darn...

Inside the house I am valiantly trying to keep my work schedule when I feel discouraged that no matter how hard I work at this...I'll make 50 cents this week!  That's an exaggeration...but anyone with a small business knows exactly what I mean!! :)  I didn't say it to make you feel sorry for me... But to remind myself that "nothing ventured is nothing gained"...and that entrepreneurs always have something else they can do to contribute to their own business!  (not one word about my website....shhhh...I know, I know....)

See how relaxed those birds look?...that's me!   Relaxed!!! ....hmmmm......

PS.  I'm late on this post (notice the reference to the football game?) because I got the flu.  I'm hoping I'm a couple pounds lighter today!

Sunshine Flowers

For once I was able to complete a card quickly and efficiently...to which I promptly celebrated by having a glass of wine and watching an episode of "Bones".  Finishing a card under a couple of hours for a class doesn't happen often...so I was pretty happy!  Usually I pull my hair out for an excessive amount of time and say "woe as me" too often!
The flowers have a yellow that shows up great!....but the soft "heath" color doesn't come through except as a shadow to the yellow in the photo.
The wonderful thing about copic markers is their ability to hit you in the face with color!  Sometimes...the simpler the better!

I've learned a lot about finishing the insides of my cards by seeing what other people do in their blogs!  I think I should add some of my favorite blogs to mine so that hopefully you will see what I mean.  I am so grateful to be able to learn at home from other people's sharing so that I can "apply and try" myself!

Copic Flower Overload!

I need to start coloring something other than flowers!  What else is there to color that has simple lines and open spaces??  It's time for me to start looking.  Pictures of kids on skateboards and teddy bears don't count!  It's time to expand my horizons!  I'm going to look at Whippersnapper Stamps after this!  Maybe Outline Stamps and Magenta too!  I'm excited!

The tinier 3D flowers on the front of the card are the same stamps done with Shrinky Dink.  (What a Name!...who thought of it?  No-one's going to forget what it's called - that's for sure!) I haven't used it for quite a while and I just had to do something else ya' know?  The shrink plastic is problematical because you can't really stamp with Staz-On since the copic marker will react badly with it.  But if you stamp in a dye based ink...it won't dry until it's melted.  Coloring on the back of it doesn't cut it either.  I settled for sanding, stamping in dye, drying just enough not to shrink, cutting without sticking my hand in it, shrinking it, and then adding the copic marker coloring when it's fully shrunk. Whew!

I didn't realize I had stamped the inside of the card as though I would be putting it in a card that was longer height wise than width wise.  Nice change though!  I think I'll leave it!

Colorful Flowersoft Weeds!

So I was hanging out with a group of really sweet and talented ladies who book a class with me once a month to make cards together.  One of them requested that we use "flowersoft" as the techinique they would like to explore. At first I wiggled my nose a bit and wondered what one does with flowersoft beyond the obvious?  On the other hand...if you don't want to paint or color...you might want to dump some of this on top of some glue and make a card very quickly while looking like a genius.  I like to look as much like a genius as I can (chuckling deprecatingly!) and so I was happy to discover that a very pretty card emerged from the fluff!

Since the card was very quick to make (only after I designed 5 that didn't work!) I decided to finish the inside with flowersoft as well.  Why not??!!  It matched and didn't take much effort!  Yay!

Here's a look at what was outside my door this morning!  The church is always there... that's not what was different about the picture.  This amount of snow is not the usual...It's reminding me very much of Manitoba, Canada where I spent some of my childhood.  Feels almost as cold too!  (not really...Manitoba is colder!!)

I'm so behind on making cards for classes that I'm going to forgo the usual list of supplies as I might need that 20 minutes to do something!  (I'm not sure it will help!)  Cross your fingers!
