Stampscapes Focal Frame 1

Time Passed...

...did it ever.
I don't know how I feel about picking up my blog again after 2 years.  All my links are broken - I don't even have the same website anymore.
...jeepers.

I love posting my work though.  Having a store for sure makes a creative life difficult. But I'm getting older and it's time to try to let the bucket list persist.

I have to chuckle at this point and note that Blogger still hasn't fixed some of it's most basic issues.  I think I will leave all the broken links and housekeeping for now and just get some posts out there and enjoy this process.  Unfortunately - you have to read about it!  LOL!  Just skip to the end!

STAMPSCAPES FOCAL FRAME 1

It's significant to me that when I decide to take up blogging again,  I turn to - hands down - my most favorite stamp company to date..."Stampscapes".  I think it's realistic yet ethereal qualities appeal to my sense of mystery and imagination.  Sometimes I keep everything on perspective and on point and other times I don't care about that.
I dreamstamp my feelings into existence.

If you read this and are anywhere near my store...this will be a class.
You can go here if you want to explore that thought.  www.lizzygiggs.com

  • The frame is foam mounted and raised.
  • The eagle and house are foam mounted and raised.
  • I used Q-tips for a lot of coloring! So plebeian!
  • I add some softer horizon colors with my Tim Holtz Ink Applicator.

Card Tutorial #2 Stampscapes for Winter (CLA401)

I am so happy to be able to have the time and the capacity to be blogging, cardmaking and communicating again!  This feels Good! I'm learning so much and trying to reach beyond the 2 things that I knew and now can say with confidence....I know three things!!  Awesome!
My last card was chosen because I had prepped for a class that I had never run!  Bummer right?  I hope to make videos of the matching cards as soon as possible.
I chose Stampscapes this time because I love them!  I went to the Stampscapes website to get caught up and see whats new only to find.....Holy Cow!! Things are hopping over there.  There are over 60 videos made by the Owner of Stampscapes, Kevin Nakagawa.  You've got to check those out. A friend of mine had mentioned he had begun tutorials starting from a beginner's perspective and beyond.  I subscribed immediately and am looking forward to watching them all!  Cool!  Also...He has created a new line of stamps!  More fun ahead!
Since starting up again, I've been asked if classes are in the future.  The short answer is yes!  However, I would like to dedicate some time to feeling comfortable with making videos, and nailing down and feeling comfortable with our new website that has not been launched yet.
In the meantime, please enjoy my latest video.  My first one was 52 minutes, and I'm happy to say, I have managed to stop the flow at 30min...  not so easy with a mouth like mine!

I've been thinking a lot recently about how much easier it is to have a store! Since I have had the pleasure of owning 2 (one in Alaska and one here in Port Huron) I definitely can remember what it felt like to jump out of bed in the morning and realize I had "x" amount of time to galvanize the kids, myself, lunches, showers, assignments, rides to school, etc. to accomplish before I could unlock "forget-me-not Paper Arts" back door.  Now...especially since it is summer...I strolled down here with a cup of coffee before 8am.  (not that galvanized!)  My one son doesn't live in the house and my other one is snoring gently (pretty sure) upstairs.

You'd think working from home would be easier!  But a store leaves you no choices but to get your job done!  Go to work, panic, sweat, freak, race home, panic, sweat, freak, run back to the store for classes, panic, sweat, freak...you get the idea.

I believe I sauntered this morning....I'm even typing s..l..o..w.....

CityScapes CLA378 - Card 2

I've had so much fun with my new Die-namics Solid Skyline by
My Favorite Stamps or www.mftstamps.com!

After finishing the card I cut right into it along the grassline and up
the side of the tree so that I could put the city die in front of the sky but behind the grass.  Having a piece of the tree behind some tree branches helped to complete the illusion.

No Problem right?!

Those first ones were UGLY!!!  I started to sweat.  There is nothing worse than committing yourself to a class and coming up with...Nothing!  Yikes!  ruh-roh!
Eventually I had a break through and was extremely relieved (and so was my family because, of course, I made it everyone's problem!). Ha!

Lonely Loon (CLA375b)

I bet you thought I was referring to myself when I said "lonely loon" for my title! (aha...meanie!) It's probably not a loon either...no I don't want an ornithology lesson!  (had to use the spell check to get that one right)...just read the side of the stamp...yup - loon!
One of my favorite things when making a Stampscapes card is making a vignette picture.  Not that I don't like stamping all over the whole thing...It's just that Stampscapes has so many small stamps that it opens up the possibilities for messing around with the whole card instead of just stamping and doing nothing else.  You get to add hardware, texture, interest, messy fingers from adding gold and black to a frame...you know...cool irritating things!
Once again...go to their most excellent website!  CLICK HERE!

All the little Marbles....

Well...here we are!
I am currently picking up as many of the marbles that fell out of my head this last year as I can.  A therapist started the process...the little wench told me I would have to do most of the picking up myself!  Really!  No magic wand there!  Poor hubby was useless...(blank stares and head scratching!)
I'm going to assume the superior race (women...in case you were wondering....) can fill in the blanks all by yourself and don't need me to give long explanations and cause you to yawn while reaching for your coffee??!!  (green tea for all you amazing healthy people!)

And since some of my marbles are still lost under couches and tables...and playing with the dust bunnies...it might explain why this particular Stampscapes card was inspired by my husbands "air freshener" which is swinging from his car's review mirror...( I may not have given it back!...hmmm).

As usual...check out the amazing Stampscapes website!  CLICK HERE!

PRINTABLE: DMgetMay_3

I have been reading and learning about taking photos and hope that I have been able to apply a little more (a very little more!) expertise to their creation.  In any case, it gives me hope that I now have a plan of execution that will bring some better results over time!  You know you're being selfish when you keep back cards from a store for the sole purpose of trying to take better pictures instead of giving them in a timely manner so that folks can see the cards and make a decision about whether or not they should take the class! Ridiculous!
....and yet??...I very naughtily did just that!!

I actually have nothing to say today (don't get too excited hubby!).  I'm sitting here saying to myself..."work, silly girl, work!".  So I'm slogging along checking things off the list.  Slow and steady wins the race right??...Hmmmm... I'm pretty sure I get more done when I'm running around with my head spinning...but we'll see...
I'm still messing with my camera and lighting.  So far...meh!  Maybe it's time for a photography class!

After laboring mightily and adding as much work as possible to a single card...I feel ready to make innocent and unsuspecting ladies sweat and grieve over the amount of work these cards will cause!  See me cackling quietly and sneakily to myself  hoping that I will trip these talented people up at last!  har har har !!!

If you haven't had a chance to try StampBord...and you delight in the details...I think you will enjoy trying your hand at this nifty product from Stampscapes.  I hadn't done it for a couple years and had to steady my shaking hand hoping I wouldn't screw up.  But I had forgotten how easy it is to use and to repair.  Can't wait to see what folks will come up with when they finish the cards and do their own thing!! It'll be awesome!

(Couldn't help adding some detail cutting as well...I can see you glowering now!)

I was so pleased when I was able to explore this "business size" idea for Stampscapes.  Mostly because I was chicken that I wouldn't be able to achieve a simple/elegant solution.  Today I'm blogging and turning my head over to the side where my worktable is and hoping against hope that I will have success coming up with a great idea for a Stampscapes Getaway.  The Getaway cards need to push the envelope to keep the interest of the very talented ladies that I hope will attend the class.  I love a simple card...but a 6 hour class demands more.  More techniques, more visual complexity...basically a "headache" card.  I feel a big headache coming on.  3 days and the mojo has not sparked.  2 or 3 ideas have fallen behind me in a ashen heap...sigh.
This is usually the point where family and friends start suggesting ideas and offer help...but that elusive thing in my head is not giving up the goods!  darn it....I even tried a bath yesterday...all I got was wrinkly skin!

I'm looking at this card and thinking that it is not remotely "Stampscape" like...and yet if you look at Kevin Nakagawa's (owner of Stampscapes) work...there is a lot of whimsy as well.  Especially all the unmounted Symmetry Sheets   I've seen folks add fairies, spaceships, planets, lightning bolts, and all manner of seemingly unrelated images to their stampscapes....and enjoyed it all thoroughly!  Why not right??  And although I've always wanted to be Commander Spock on Star Trek making my way through the universe...I can't get my brain to accept Spock in the bushes on my Stampscapes card!  When I lived in Alaska they had a massive stamp store there that actually had a huge collection of  Star Trek images on Stamps.  You'd think I would have grabbed them...but no!  I like the tv episodes but not on my cards!  I'm not sure why....maybe for the same reason I would never buy a uniform!  (I'm a closet Trekkie!)  ...very closet!.

I should probably tell you that I've also accepted an invitation to teach at a really neat store in Troy called "My Craft Room" !!  Some wonderful ladies at Remember When Scrapbooking passed on some of their class cards and my blog to the Joyce the owner of My Craft room and I was lucky enough to get a nice email from her.  My first class will be close to the end of May...more on that later.  I'm grateful for this opportunity but also have little fears (okay...really massive!) about not being able to pull new designs out of my diminishing head space...(I have been repeatedly calling my Kids "Taco" which is our dog...Tristan is not impressed by this).   Anyway....I'm excited and hope that my brain comes through for me and that I will become more creative instead of less.  The good news is that there will be more kits to package!  (yay!!! right Demra??..Demra?....right?....ummm...call you later!..hmmmm)

If you've ever watched "Pride & Prejudice" the long BBC version with Colin Firth (is there any other version that matters?)...There is a bedroom that Darcy stays in that is Old light blue (robin's egg blue) with Gold accents.  I've seen an old decorated egg with the same coloring.  It's Gorgeous!  I've tried several times to imitate that Old World "I've got boatloads of money so I don't care that the gold accents are real" Color.  So here is my latest attempt using a favorite set of stamps from Stampscapes - a fantastic Company I love to buy from!!! (can never have too many Stampscapes!)

There's a nifty swirly swirly accent stamp (a few actually) that comes with the set.  Very easy to make a matching inside with.  Check out the actual Unmounted Stamps!

Stampscapes Getaway Card 3

For the convenience of those attending my class, and those wanting to save project ideas...please print out the following pdf. PRINTABLE:DM325Card3

Ahhh...if only I could crawl over to my favorite chair and watch a "Bones' episode while drinking a glass of wine and waiting for one of my sons to make dinner!  I don't care what kind of dinner....mac and cheese...hotdogs....I'd even eat ramen noodles!   As long as I didn't have to make it myself!  Then I would "accidently" fall asleep...snoring gently....alas...

So today...I was at "Remember When Scrapbooking" MI teaching a class and having a great time.  I was talking to Fran who Facebooks and had recently set up Shannon (the owner) with a Fan page.  Now like a good little girl, I had signed up with facebook during a CHA seminar to better advertise ourselves...but just couldn't take that last step into Facebook Neverland thinking that all that facebooking would chew up what little leisure time I had left and make me crazy because I wouldn't have anyone hit the "like" button anyway!
But I would be able to take pictures like this one  at "Remember When" and shoot it from my phone to facebook right away.  Cool but sounds like work!

Great Ladies at this store!  Fun to work and play with!
