I'm looking around in my studio and loving it's new arrangement - but I'm flinching at the same time because it isn't finished and I promised myself I would move everything else around this weekend! (yuck-poo!) Up until this time my husband and I have been sharing this space and now we are moving his office to a spare bedroom and moving the servers to the basement as well. Which means I will be offline for a bit.  (hopefully only today).  So why is hubby at the local Best Buy this morning...hmmm???  I shouldn't bug him too much as I myself am not currently cleaning anything at this exact moment!!! :)

Do you realize that in a month or so...kids will have to go back to school again?  I haven't even planted flowers for the summer! (not that I'm a planter per se!!)  It would be more correct to say that I haven't tried to plant anything in my desert - which is what I call the long garden bed right in front of the studio.  Typically, that is where I plant all my good intentions and then watch (out of the corner of my eye every time I enter the house) as the flowers die slowly.  They never had a chance since the rain can't reach them and my calloused lazy self heartlessly never waters them! Phooey!

Vacations....hmm...Love 'em...but...
My pdf's stopped working because my domain name expired,
Blogger changed their format and I'm not used to it...
...and I keep refocusing my efforts because I haven't shaken off the
holiday feeling!!
So a bit of a rusty start today!

My son Michael went to a week long film camp at the New York Film Academy for his graduation present (ok...he's a trifle spoilt!...in a nice way!).  As the time drew near...Hubby and I got more and more antsy about whether or not we could let him go to the Big Apple all by himself!  (18 is still close to 17 you know??!!)  At almost the last minute we decided to tag along and hotel at a different location so as not to take away the "independence" feeling for him....but we did walk around with our cell phones in our hands!  By the third day...he didn't bother communicating anymore!  Darn it...he flew out of the nest!!!
I have to say I truly did not understand what "rat race" meant until we found ourselves vying for space on the sidewalks trying to get to our next location!  It's like some sweaty, hot, mob of people rubbing past each other on their way to somewhere with taxi's honking and whisking by so that you feel the air from the vehicle brushing against your legs!  So when I say vacation??.....I really meant "The Amazing Race" New York!

I literally have nothing to say!....Usually I've got something burning on my brain that has to get out and make an appearance! But maybe my brain has been fried? (not a good sign...but probably something to be expected!...the belly protrudes...the brain rots...you know!)  So I will leave you with another card and no ongoing commentary to muddle your life with!

If you would like to sign up for this class - it will be available on the following dates:
1st Location: Remember When Scrapbooking - Call: (586) 598-1810
Date & Times:  Thursday June 23, 11:00 - 1pm  DAYTIME

My Suggestion for attending a Class with Colored Pencils:
It would be great if you could bring your own colored pencils! Bring the ones that you have.
They do not have to be Prismacolor Brand.  However...You must make do with the ones you bring.
I will bring my set that I used plus any extra that I have to share with you...but you will be sharing with any others who also do not have a complete set.  I'm sure we can all bend a little to make it work!! :)

June should illegal....Now that the roller coaster has stopped...I'm getting off and back to Cardmaking.  I feel that the world should revolve around cards!  Ok ...maybe that's not realistic...but it's certainly easier to understand!

What is it about Just Rite Stamps?  They are wiggly and hard to stamp with!  They make great images...but I often get ink on the rims and if you don't attack with a wet wipe first...you get extra ink on your paper. Darn it...  But when you finish it off ?...somehow it all comes together.

I have been reading and learning about taking photos and hope that I have been able to apply a little more (a very little more!) expertise to their creation.  In any case, it gives me hope that I now have a plan of execution that will bring some better results over time!  You know you're being selfish when you keep back cards from a store for the sole purpose of trying to take better pictures instead of giving them in a timely manner so that folks can see the cards and make a decision about whether or not they should take the class! Ridiculous!
....and yet??...I very naughtily did just that!!

I actually have nothing to say today (don't get too excited hubby!).  I'm sitting here saying to myself..."work, silly girl, work!".  So I'm slogging along checking things off the list.  Slow and steady wins the race right??...Hmmmm... I'm pretty sure I get more done when I'm running around with my head spinning...but we'll see...
I'm still messing with my camera and lighting.  So far...meh!  Maybe it's time for a photography class!

After laboring mightily and adding as much work as possible to a single card...I feel ready to make innocent and unsuspecting ladies sweat and grieve over the amount of work these cards will cause!  See me cackling quietly and sneakily to myself  hoping that I will trip these talented people up at last!  har har har !!!

If you haven't had a chance to try StampBord...and you delight in the details...I think you will enjoy trying your hand at this nifty product from Stampscapes.  I hadn't done it for a couple years and had to steady my shaking hand hoping I wouldn't screw up.  But I had forgotten how easy it is to use and to repair.  Can't wait to see what folks will come up with when they finish the cards and do their own thing!! It'll be awesome!

(Couldn't help adding some detail cutting as well...I can see you glowering now!)

I'm feeling a little bummed today because I've put up some photos that are below par. Can't re-do them though...darn.  So I'm taking some good advice from some ladies at class yesterday and hope that I can represent the cards better in the hopes of adequately advertising for classes.  I framed this card with a matching color to help it stand out a little...but unfortunately the card is already at Destination Marysville and I won't be able to take any more photos just now.  I'm seriously thinking about going to Troy and redoing the Long Stampscapes cards.  They look a little boring don't they?  They did not photo well at all.  Sigh....I'm going to consider that for a bit today and make a decision later.

Who knew that blogging and teaching would require so many new skills?  I hope this counts towards those brain exercises they say you should do so you can still think clearly when you get older!!! If I learn to work my website will that make me smart???  Please....pretty please....!

I was so pleased when I was able to explore this "business size" idea for Stampscapes.  Mostly because I was chicken that I wouldn't be able to achieve a simple/elegant solution.  Today I'm blogging and turning my head over to the side where my worktable is and hoping against hope that I will have success coming up with a great idea for a Stampscapes Getaway.  The Getaway cards need to push the envelope to keep the interest of the very talented ladies that I hope will attend the class.  I love a simple card...but a 6 hour class demands more.  More techniques, more visual complexity...basically a "headache" card.  I feel a big headache coming on.  3 days and the mojo has not sparked.  2 or 3 ideas have fallen behind me in a ashen heap...sigh.
This is usually the point where family and friends start suggesting ideas and offer help...but that elusive thing in my head is not giving up the goods!  darn it....I even tried a bath yesterday...all I got was wrinkly skin!

Time to take a break from Stampscapes and slip in a hedgehog! Let's all go outside right now and lounge around like he is!!....darn...it's raining!  It's also the time of year that if you did lounge outside all you would see is all the things you need to do to tidy up the yard.  Squeezing your eyes shut really tight and pretending, doesn't really work!...it's all still there in the morning!

So...you know how the Post Office wants to overcharge you for having a square card??!!  That's just wrong!
Drives me nutty!  How come business mail doesn't get charged more?  Who's bringing the old fashioned, snail mail and traditional communication back into existence?  Card Makers!!  That's us!! Traditionalists!  You might even call us the Renaissance Card Maker.  The Profound and Classic Conveyor!

I say - "let's take back the mail system and claim business size envelopes as ours!!"

Picture me typing in slow motion since my fingers are frozen! (creaking, squeaking...interesting weather...) I'm seriously debating whether I should burn some wood in the fireplace right now....nope...I'll get dirty and won't be able to make cards!  You can use that excuse for anything right??  Nope...can't clean the kitchen, I'll have to wash my hands before I make cards.  Nope...can't rake leaves from last year...I'll get grubby and I won't be able to make cards...

It's the 18th!!!  I haven't blogged since the 18th!!  :(  What happened to April any way?  Maybe I think it's March because it's SNOWING outside!!  I'm going to use a snow machine to drive to my next class!  Strap a box on the back and let Taco my dog come along for the ride...yeah...it has potential! The sentiment on the card isn't an accident!

I always have fun teaching classes - but yesterday, I have to say, I had a blast!  I was over at Shannon's from Remember When Scrapbooking with a bunch of neat ladies where a 2 hour class morphed into 4 plus hours because we spent a large portion of the time cackling like chickens over what seemed extremely hilarious at the moment!   I had tears coming out of my eyes at one point ... I was laughing so hard.  It was awesome!  Even if I could remember exactly what was so funny - I'm sure it wouldn't translate enough to make anyone chuckle.  It was just one of those great moments in time! Thanks you guys!! (okay - they were ladies...just an expression...sheesh!)

In an effort to Not Do another Copic Class using flowers....I turned to these sweet little Asian Style Dolls from Hero Arts...which brought on another creative belch problem that stymied me for a couple of days.  (I'm always coming up with these amazing reasons why I can't get my cards done in a timely fashion!).  Should Copic Classes include intense sessions in conquering various techniques???  I grappled with that thought for a bit and decided that I had no Art Major Degree nor 400 classes taken to equal one - so I had no business saying that I possessed enough technique to actually share!!!  Once I figured that out...I'm pretty sure that any value I offer would be making some classes that people could attend and have a great time together...both as friends and collaborators in Card Making!  Whew!....Belch...I now feel justified and righteous in making that statement.  Of course... having said that...no-one can actually peg me as saying that I know what I am doing!  What a relief!!!

Wouldn't you know it!....the last card you make for a class looks the best and makes you wonder if you shouldn't burn the other two and start again!  If this was my only responsibility this coming month - I just might do it and take the butterfly thing off in a different direction!  Alas...press on!  Maybe people will think this is the ugliest card of the three and the other two look better!!!!   Ha! Entry Level Stampscapes: Victorian Gold Card 2

(I'm bummed that the gold in this picture looks so brassy....but I'm using this picture anyway so that I can get going on the final card....am I starting to lower my standards???....no...I'm just not good at photography!!)

I'm looking at this card and thinking that it is not remotely "Stampscape" like...and yet if you look at Kevin Nakagawa's (owner of Stampscapes) work...there is a lot of whimsy as well.  Especially all the unmounted Symmetry Sheets   I've seen folks add fairies, spaceships, planets, lightning bolts, and all manner of seemingly unrelated images to their stampscapes....and enjoyed it all thoroughly!  Why not right??  And although I've always wanted to be Commander Spock on Star Trek making my way through the universe...I can't get my brain to accept Spock in the bushes on my Stampscapes card!  When I lived in Alaska they had a massive stamp store there that actually had a huge collection of  Star Trek images on Stamps.  You'd think I would have grabbed them...but no!  I like the tv episodes but not on my cards!  I'm not sure why....maybe for the same reason I would never buy a uniform!  (I'm a closet Trekkie!)  ...very closet!.

I should probably tell you that I've also accepted an invitation to teach at a really neat store in Troy called "My Craft Room" !!  Some wonderful ladies at Remember When Scrapbooking passed on some of their class cards and my blog to the Joyce the owner of My Craft room and I was lucky enough to get a nice email from her.  My first class will be close to the end of May...more on that later.  I'm grateful for this opportunity but also have little fears (okay...really massive!) about not being able to pull new designs out of my diminishing head space...(I have been repeatedly calling my Kids "Taco" which is our dog...Tristan is not impressed by this).   Anyway....I'm excited and hope that my brain comes through for me and that I will become more creative instead of less.  The good news is that there will be more kits to package!  (yay!!! right Demra??..Demra?....right?....ummm...call you later!..hmmmm)
